O-1 is one of the first of the tool steels grades. It is a oil hardening multipurpose tool steel which maintains excellent abrasion and wears resistance, toughness and machinability characteristics. It is used extensively in dies and punches for blanking, forming and trimming, as well as in cams, bushings, guides and gauges.

Our A-2 multipurpose tool steel is a superior quality of steel reflecting a very fine grain structure. It is electric furnace air-hardening, 5% chrome tool steel. It maintains excellent wear and abrasion resistance properties. These qualities permit the steel to hold extremely sharp cutting edges particularly as compared to O-1. Our A-2 grade of tool steel maintains exceptional machinability characteristics when compared to other high carbon / high chromium steels, like D -2. It is one of our most popular grades of tool steel and is ideal for use particularly in thin applications.

Our 1018 Low Carbon is a fine grained, vacuum-degassed carbon steel. It is easily machined, has excellent weld ability, and responds uniformly to case hardening. In addition, it is easy to cold form, bend, and braze. The magnesium content provides greater strength and hardness compared to many other carbon steels.

Our D – 2 grade is a fine quality of tool steel that is air hardening and therefore offers a high degree of dimensional stability in heat treatment. Its high carbon and vanadium content provides for its excellent wear and abrasion resistance qualities. If your application is demanding, our D -2 should be considered due to its hardness. It is free of decarb and other surface imperfections. Its low sulphur content makes it non-free machining.

Shock resisting tool steels are listed under the letter symbol "S". These tool steels are intended for applications requiring high toughness and resistance to shock loading. Our S – 7 grade is commonly used for moderately elevated temperature service. Repeated shock loads are no problem for the S -7 grade due to its exceptional strength and overall toughness.

This steel, also known as "Chrome – Moly" maintains exceptional fatigue, abrasion and impact resistant qualities as a result of its main alloying elements of chromium and molybdenum. Our 4142 product can be heat treated to increase its toughness and wear resistance. On its annealed state it can be readily formed and machined. It is useful in applications that require a lower hardness and less wear resistance than a fully heat treated tool steel, but it can be flame-hardened where a hardness is desired.

PreMar 410 Stainless Steelground flat stock is a basic 12%-chromium, martensitic stainless steel that exhibits good resistance to atmospheric corrosion. PreMar 410 stainless steel also exhibits good resistance to oxidation for continuous service temperatures up to 1300 degrees Fahrenheit (704 degrees Centigrade) and intermittent service up to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit (816 degrees Centigrade). This grade can be heat treated to a range of hardness and toughness levels for use in a variety of applications. Now available in standard tolerances sizes 1/16” through 1-1/2” thicknesses by 24” lengths.

PreMar 440C Stainless Knife Steelground flat stock is a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel which exhibits an attainable hardness of approximately 60 HRC. The high carbon content results in a hard matrix and numerous chromium carbides in the microstructure, which in turn provide excellent wear resistance and retention of cutting edges. PreMar 440C stainless knife steel should be considered for applications such as specialty knives, industrial knives, scissors, surgical knives, and other applications which require a combination of corrosion resistance, wear resistance, or edge retention. Now available in standard & oversize tolerances sizes 1/16´through 2” thicknesses by 24” lengths.
